In the 80s, the Army, a kind of private soldiers of the ruling class, and the “death squads”, supported by the USA government, tried to eliminate many natives, their Trade Unions and other popular movements, which organised themselves to revenge their rights.
About 100.000 people were murdered, often after terrible tortures and rapes, 200.000 fled to Chapas in Mexico, a million somewhere in the country especially in the towns.
